Curriculum 

6th Grade – World Geography – Eastern Hemisphere

6th graders will be introduced to World Geography in alignment with the curriculum structured within the National Council for the Social Studies C3 Framework (college, career and civic life). Within each unit, the impact of geography, history, culture, population and economy will be examined. Students will dive into learning about the following units—setting a foundation for being well-informed citizens:

Unit 1 – Map Skills and Geography Skills

Unit 2 – Southwest Asia

Unit 3 – Africa

Unit 4 – Indian Subcontinent

Unit 5 – Central and Eastern Asia

Unit 6 – Southeast Asia

Unit 7 – Pacific Southwest

7th Grade – World Geography – Western Hemisphere

7th graders will be introduced to World Geography in alignment with the curriculum structured within the National Council for the Social Studies C3 Framework (college, career and civic life).     8th Grade U.S. History

The study of 8th grade social studies will require students to investigate the United States of America and its history. The class has been organized by units utilizing National Council for the Social Studies C3 Framework (college, career and civic life). Students will be expected to maintain a working spiral notebook to record their research, which will improve their observational abilities, their technical writing abilities, and their overall understanding of social studies. Additionally, students will gain a better understanding of how to approach standardized test questions that involve reasoning. The following units will be explored:

Unit 1 – Movin’ Forward: Reconstruction and Westward Expansion

Unit 2 – Time for Change: The Progressive Era

Unit 3 – The War to End All Wars: World War I

Unit 4 – Boom or Bust: The Roaring 20’s to the Great Depression

Unit 5 -The Greatest Generation: World War II

Unit 6 – A New Kind of War and Civil Unrest: Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement
